Steamed Asparagus Recipe with Sea Salt

I love asparagus. It is one of my favorite vegetables. My kids are not big fans of it but we are trying different ways of preparing it so that hopefully, eventually, they will come to love it as much as I do. There are no shortages of ways to prepare asparagus.

To make steamed asparagus with sea salt you will need asparagus, oil, sea salt ,and pepper.

How To Cook Asparagus

There are several ways to cook asparagus including on the stove top, steamed and roasted.   You can steam asparagus with the below recipe and I really love this way as it’s simple and packed with flavor. 

To roast asparagus you heat your oven up to 425 degrees.  Snap off the ends and drizzle with a little bit of oil and your favorite seasonings.  This process takes about 15 -20 minutes. 

To cook asparagus on the stovetop you will melt a bit of butter in a pan, snap off the ends and add asparagus to your melted butter.  Top with your favorite seasonings and turn your asparagus often for about 10 minutes until asparagus is cooked through.

What To Put On Top Of Steamed Asparagus

While steamed asparagus is great tasting just the way it is, it can be even better with some flavor added. Here are some ideas for steamed asparagus seasoning.

  1. Sea Salt & Pepper – This is my favorite
  2. Parmesan Cheese
  3. Lemon, either as a dried seasoning or as lemon juice
  4. Indian spices
  5. Balsamic vinegar

Sea Salt Asparagus

Cook Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 bundle asparagus
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon cracked pepper
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/2 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 tablespoon garlic

Instructions

  1. In a dutch over or saute pan with lid, add in butter and garlic. Turn to low heat until melted.
  2. Snap asparagus at the ends to remove. Then wash and place in pot. Turn to medium heat and cover. Toss lightly with tongs every few minutes. Add olive oil to prevent any sticking to the pot.
  3. Steam with lid on until asparagus is tender about 10 minutes or so. Top with sea salt and pepper. 
  4. Serve!
