Triple Berry Smoothie With Spinach

I will admit I was a perpetual breakfast skipper for a looooong time.  I would have a cup or two of coffee and be starving by 10.  I would make myself wait until noon when my husband came home for lunch and I would scarf down more than my fair share.  Recently my husband and I both have started enjoying smoothies in the morning for breakfast and I can tell how we are both benefiting from them.  I also try to add in a small snack around the 10 time frame and I can tell you that a kid size plate with no seconds is usually enough for me at lunch.  With a little one on the way making sure I take the time to eat consistently has been really important.  One of my favorite smoothies to start the day off with is a Triple Berry Smoothie with Spinach.

Triple Berry Smoothie

A delicious fruity smoothie packed with benefits of it’s own and taken to the next level with the addition of spinach.  The berries cover the light taste and dark color that spinach is known to add to smoothies.

Benefits Of The Mighty Spinach Leaf

The best ratio for a a healthy spinach smoothie is 40% spinach or other leafy green (I suggest kale) to 60% fruit.

Spinach is a super food as it carries health benefits of  vitamins A (as beta-carotene), C, K, and folate, calcium, dietary fiber,  and iron. Spinach also carries selenium, zinc, phosphorus, potassium, copper, omega-3 fatty acids and vitamins B1, B2, B3, B6 and E.

Spinach also can help the following:

– protect against certain cancers of the stomach, skin, breast, prostate, ovaries and colon.

– cardiovascular health

– prevention of  heart attacks and stroke

– spinach can help diseases like asthma and rheumatoid arthritis

Our local ice cream shop has a triple berry smoothie that we love and get all the time. Wonder how the spinach affects the taste?!

I love it because my kids never have a clue. At first I never told them I was adding it but now I do. They don’t care anymore, however still won’t eat salad. :)

We put spinach in all of our smoothies, it’s the only way we can get the kids to consume it. We tend to have our smoothies as a mid afternoon snack.

I was really slow to hop onto the trend using veg in smoothies but when I finally did spinach was the first one I added because it really doesn’t effect taste but so many added nutrients my favorite combo is spinach mango and banana but will have to try your combo.
I also started using beets recently and have been using berries with beets and apple or peach
but I will have to try the spinach with berries next time
