Cookies, cookies, cookies my family adores you!  We are no stranger to the Oreo but homemade cookies are still the favorites in our house.  Chocolate chip will always be a favorite of my husbands but I love a variety of cookie flavors and it takes them to the top of the list if they have cinnamon in the recipe.  There is just something about cinnamon that keeps me salivating for more!  That is why this Snickerdoodle Cookie Recipe is always near the front of my recipe box and covered in more than a few spots of cookie dough mix.  That just means it’s that good right?

Snickerdoodle Cookie Recipe

I have often wondered how the Snickerdoodle Cookie received it’s name.  In the days of naming cookies a snicker meant a laugh and these days snicker means a delicious candy bar so exactly how did this name come about? So of course I hit the internet and it appears that I will more than likely be left in the dark a bit longer but Schneckennudel sure sounds fun!

The Joy of Cooking claims that snickerdoodles are probably German in origin, and that the name is a corruption of the German word Schneckennudel (“snail noodles”), a kind of pastry. It is also possible that the name is simply a nonsense word with no particular meaning, originating from a New England tradition of whimsical cookie names.
